Technology for Social Justice research uses engineering principles to advance technology that promotes social justice. Current focus areas include antiracist technologies and social justice, those below, and wellness. A course on Antiracist Technology is offered Aumtumn 2020, and another is being developed for Autumn 2021. There are many opportunities for engineering research on this topic (e.g., equality, diversity, and inclusion), some given here.

Technology 4 Mental Health research group uses health, social, and educational sciences, along with feedback control theory/engineering, to develop mental health treatments: Stress reduction, mood disorders (depression, bipolar illness), and attention. EEG, PPG, and heart heart rate variability enable bio-signal-driven auto-generation/modulation of music/light for stress reduction or depression alleviation, and "adaptive ambience" provides this for groups of people. See here.

Humanitarian Engineering: Advancing Technology for Sustainable Development research focuses on modeling, analysis, and design of technology for elements of poverty, social justice, development, and participatory technology design for sustainable community development.
