RF/Microwave Laboratory

Overview

The High Frequency Instructional Laboratory was developed with the support of Hewlett Packard now Agilent and the National Science Foundation. One of the goals of this laboratory is to expose the solid state, electromagnetics and communication under-graduate and graduate students to the design high-frequency measurement of microwave circuits. This educational laboratory is used in two senior elective courses/laboratories (ECE 5017 and ECE5027).

Equipment in the Education Microwave Laboratory

  • 2 Network Analyzers:
    • ENA 5071B 4-port 9 GHz with time domain option
    • HP8753 C (300 kHz - 6 GHz)
  • Microwave Loadpull:
    • ATN
    • HP8753 E (300 kHz - 6 GHz)
  • Spectrum Analyzer
    • HP8592A (50 kHz - 22 GHz)
    • E4405B (9 kHz - 13.2 GHz)
  • Noise Figure Meter HP8970B (10 MHz - 1.8 GHz)
  • 2 HP8350B Sweep Oscillators (0.01 - 2.4 GHz)
  • Microwave Power Meter HP437B

  • Quick Circuit routing machine for the fabrication of microwave circuit prototypes.

Microwave Software Available - ADS is a schematic capture simulator for the simulation of complete communication systems including, microwave network, antenna and link, and signal processing.
- ADS includes a schematic-capture based harmonic-balance and transient microwave-simulator which permits the users to verify and optimize their design as well as generate the layout for board or chip fabrication.
